Cello Teaching Strategies 1
Dates: June 15 to 17
Times: 9 to 12:20
Cost: $115
This 10 hour course offers teachers at the beginning of their pedagogy study the opportunity to discuss components of teaching style and present a demonstration lesson(s) for comment. You will prepare two fifteen to 20 minute lessons—individual and/or group by video. I am hoping to provide students for you to teach, if you do not yet have a studio. Each lesson should start with an opening activity (tuning can occur before the video); tone/sound development; review; new material, and the closing activity. Give attention to working with the parents and the assignment(s). We will use the Descriptors used in evaluating teacher training candidates. I find what I suggest most often to new teachers is 1) talk less (70% playing, 30 % talking) 2) make sure the assignment is clear 3) remember to smile! This does not replace the SPA course or the Practicum course—it is just a guided experience in developing your teaching style.
When video became available decades ago, I started regularly video-taping myself teaching. It was a revelation to see what I thought I was doing and what actually came across. This has defined my process—and I am still learning!
I look forward to developing this course with you.
